Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 1)

I knew it wasn’t the name anymore, but was absolutely certain it had been officially named that for about twelve minutes. Guess ya really do learn something every day.

It’s that moment when you realise that a sitting Tory MP may be an actual fascist.

Since we are replacing words, Ben…

And all it took to notice was you wanting children to starve.

Honest question: which of them actually isn’t?

This makes me wonder how they are testing. Unless they can say for sure the kids don’t have the antibodies, they can’t really tell if kids aren’t carrying it home to infect others in their households. This is why the hybrid model popular in some US states makes no sense to me. Rather than have the kids stay home, they rotate them in and out of school in a manner that seems designed to expose as many people as possible (changing classes, instructors, etc.).

From my friend who lived in that area:

“ Seattle used to have SLUT - South Lake Union Trans and due to its rep had to change it to SLU. Lol.”

Sorry, I edited my comment becaue it was half baked and I’d it left over from trying to reply about what was going on in Europe. I’m concerned about schools and I don’t know.

I thought that about the hybrid model at first, too. But where I am, the hybrid model is based on having smaller “pods” so that if one person (whether student, instructor or other) is affected, the number of required quarantines is minimized. They don’t swap out instructors, though, as far as I can tell. So they still get some socialization while minimizing risks. It’s been going pretty well so far! :crossed_fingers:

It’s been heartening to see local councils and businesses take this on even though they shouldn’t have to, and the same with Marcus Rashford who “appears to have set up an alternative government” as someone put it.

One quote of his that really stood out for me and why he’s not letting this go…

Rashford recalled his own experience, writing: “I remember the sound of my mum crying herself to sleep to this day, having worked a 14-hour shift, unsure how she was going to make ends meet.”

If you read the summary, the evidence evaluated for the approval was weak tea at best, and partly done by the manufacturer, hardly a disinterested party. Even with that, the strength of evidence was iffy. Color me unconvinced. And also, I am strongly suspecting political pressure to put something out there he can take credit for.
