Aside from stifling or manipulating any scientific reports that might make the administration look bad, pushing unproven remedies that provided them with quick profits, and spreading misinformation so they could increase the number of people who need those remedies…I can’t think of any tasks either.

They really believed that it would stay a “blue state problem” and built their mythology around that. Now that it is a red state problem, that same mythos makes it impossible for them to respond. As usual, it will be the poor and PoC who will primarily bear the burden, but there will be impacts among the older white male base of the party. Already stories of skewing hospitalization data upthread. Hard to hide mass death, though.
