Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 1)

Bolsonaro tells supporters he did ‘lung check’ and covid-19 test
'I came from the hospital now, I did a lung plate. The lung is clear, okay? I will take the covid exam shortly, but everything is fine, 'said the president. Result should come out this Tuesday.

Suspected of Covid-19, Bolsonaro takes a new test and already takes hydroxychloroquine.

True to the character of their hero.

He won’t die, either of that or the snake oil. That would only happen in a world with a decent god.

If he croaks they should put “So what? I’m sorry. What do you want me to do?” on his tombstone.

Well, shit.

While Australia as a whole is doing reasonably well, in the State of Victoria we’re now seeing a second wave. After weeks of single-digit new daily cases today we saw ~190 cases in Victoria (but thankfully no spikes anywhere else), so we’re going back to a higher level of intervention.

The Teen tells me it’s all going to be ok, but then he’s just had his term holidays extended by a week and is not an impartial observer.

ETA - the borders between Vic and both South Australia and NSW has been closed as of today. First time since 1919, and that was for Spanish Flu.

That’s terrible, given the case numbers.
Holy shit. Is that real? Are there safeguards in place, like fixed groups of students, smaller groups, social distancing, obligatory masks especially for teachers, clear instructions on ventilation of rooms (i.e. windows and doors open at least 10 min/h)? Are they planning regular testing for the teachers, around once a week?

In all earnest, seeing what the US are doing I expect the answer to all of this is “no”, but I have to ask.

Reminder: the plural of anecdote is “not data”, but it fits what we’ve been saying for a while now: WDKS.

(Not that Atlas is their hero. Though I suppose few have actually read the book, so for some, he probably is.)

Wow, I never thought about it this way, but now I realize that D&D is absolutely the reason I can intuitively understand the ramifications of these edge probabilities while others can’t.

For them I’ve been trying to work up analogies with Russian roulette and air travel (“One in a hundred Covid Air planes crash. Want to buy a ticket? They’re a lot cheaper than their competitors.”)

No, because he won’t die, and then the sneering and the smug superiority will be beyond anything you can imagine. Remember Boris Johnson?
