That is definitely a thing. One of my neighbors, when I asked a while ago if he’d gotten the jab yet, said, “no, but come Thursday it won’t matter.” Because the governor was lifting some restrictions on that day. Weird, weird thinking going on there.
And he’s in the “over 65” group.
Good news and bad news in Ontario

After a month of saying no way in hell he was doing to make a “two tier society” by issuing official proof of Covid vaccination, this week each health boards threatened that they will implement their own passport. Then yesterday the feds say they will pay for provinces to issue one, suddenly hey, we’ll have one next week.
While at the same time the science panel that was advising him on Covid were fired? or resigning? It is unclear. It wasn’t as if he was listening to them anyway, and announcing it Friday evening was pretty much trying to bury the story. Sigh.
They’re all really made from stardust and gold pressed latinum. That’s my story.
Living in god’s waiting room provides one with a different perspective.
Of course, that doesn’t explain Florida.
It sounds promising. I wonder why we’re not hearing more about it.
Results of the clinical trial
93% effective against predominantly circulating variants : Against the alpha (B.1.1.7) and beta (B.1.351) variants, plus other variants of concern/variants of interest, Novavax had 93% efficacy. The Novavax vaccine had 100% efficacy against the original SARS-CoV-2 strain.
Very good protection against mild disease : Novavax’s overall vaccine efficacy was 90.4%. All cases in the vaccine group were mild.
Full protection against severe disease : The Novavax vaccine had 100% efficacy against moderate and severe disease.
Nothing explains Florida!
Interesting question. You got me looking…
(I hit the paywall, and didn’t read that ^ one)
https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/08/covid-19-vaccinemaker-novavax-faces-manufacturing-setback
The U.S. government has ordered Novavax to stop making vaccine in the United States and said it will offer the company no more manufacturing funding until it passes muster with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) strict manufacturing requirements, such as ensuring each lot of vaccine has the same potency.
Despite its setback in the United States, where contractors make the vaccine in North Carolina and Texas, Novavax is pushing ahead with manufacturing in other countries.
and
Maybe these aspects of Novavax could make it attractive to some vaccine hesitant types. “It’s the vaccine the FDA doesn’t want you to have because it’s from nature…”
If they are already covering most of god’s image, a few more cm² won’t be a problem.
It could be a bit more effective if it said that you will have to choose one of them, the vaccine now or the pills later due covid’s effects.
Um, about that idea Dee…
Having lived in Florida for a decade, I can attest that his waiting room is very crowded.
While at the same time the science panel that was advising him on Covid were fired? or resigning?
There was one high profile resignation, Dr. Fisman, but the Ontario COVID Science Table is still there. I use their dashboard as a cross check for the official government site. They are volunteers so I can’t see that really changing.
Doug Ford has driven the boat squarely into 3 waves with the passengers yelling at him to change course. Wave 4 is upon us now… I think he’s done for politically and just doesn’t want to appear in public any more, especially with a Federal election on. We’re set to hit a case rate by mid-September that will trigger another school closure, and he can’t even be bothered to hold a press conference.
Having once visited Florida by mistake and encountering a Florida cop while I was on acid I formed a very strong opinion about giving assholes guns.
Never feel guilty; you’re actively protecting yourself and others in a time when so many people are willfully refusing to give a damn about anyone, including themselves.
So 'good for you, Glen Coco!'
