If you are a gerbil, it is definitely a trap! :upside_down_face: I am a huge fan of kitty therapy!

ā€œ As the university began its fall semester this week, it lifted building capacity restrictions and distancing and masking requirements. It also does not require vaccination.

The university changed its protocol late Thursday to enact the campus-wide quarantine, move classes online and suspend large, indoor gatherings.

Iā€™m listening to the rebroadcast of todayā€™s Maine calling, and wish everyone a state CDC director as compassionate and well-spoken and just fucking chill as Dr. Shah.

I feel so lucky to have him in our state through all of this.

Not so much anti-vax, as just never got around to it.

More collateral damage. But he appears to be on the mend.

State officials withheld monthly salaries from board members in Alachua and Broward counties who supported the mask requirements, marking a major turning point in the weekslong fight over face coverings in schools.

Fucking hell. Iā€™m not familiar with Broward, but good luck to anyone in Alachua, unless they have the time and resources to bring it up to (minimum) the state Supreme Court level. Nepotism, through and through, in the LEO and judicial ranks there. :rage:

I could easily see the federal government providing some assistance there.

Iā€™m not sure the federal government could help directly, but the Dept of Education is moving on the mask bans issue Education Dept. Investigating Mask Mandate Bans In 5 States : Back To School: Live Updates : NPR
For these brave and sensible board members, I hope they can sustain the loss. A lot of school board members donā€™t recieve a salary but it looks like 42k a year in Broward. I hope the ACLU or somw similar organization steps up to help with the legal challenges. This also leaves me questioning why the state has specific control over those salaries. I wonder if they are a line item in the state school funding.

School districts in Florida can pay their leadersā€™ salaries with federal funding if Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) follows through on his threat to yank some state aid from districts that mandate masks, the U.S. Department of Education said Friday, as public school systems in states like Florida plan to require mask-wearing despite bans from Republican state officials.

Oh! That is direct and encouraging!

Having lived in Gainesville for a decade beginning with the student murders, I can attest to the sheer audacity and stupidity of Alachua legal folks.

Thanks. Any time Iā€™m indoors or around people Iā€™m wearing a mask, and if I know Iā€™m going to be in a risky environment (like a large crowd) Iā€™m wearing a KN95 mask. Between that and being vaccinated I am hoping Iā€™ve taken enough precautions, but with how things are going these days with the variants, who the fuck knows.
