You mean they don’t interbreed?

As far as I understand, there are several possibilities here.

Wrong headlines, not viruses combine, but a strain carries characteristics of different known types. Happens all the time, independently evolved. Small genome, some internal and external constraints on mutations, bingo.

However, even recombination is a very rare possibility if a person gets infected by several strains, which also infect the same cell. Given the amount of people infected, rare possibilities occur at some point with a likelihood I cannot estimate, but which I guess is large enough not to dismiss the possibility. That said, internal and external constraints still remain, so most of the time this leads to nothing.

The only upside is that social media helps the worst members of society to expose themselves for who they truly are. Let’s hope they never find a way to cover their tracks…those digital droppings make it much easier for the rest of us to avoid them.
