i donât know the state of things in florida these days, but at one point they were under reporting, so i could see âgovernment faking the death tollâ could be interpreted in different ways
that said, now that ive rtfaâd, the headline is a little off because the poll specifically asked about âexaggeratingâ

The Japanese Government is in the final stages of preparing another round of economic stimulus, which will provide payments of 100,000 yen (about 850 dollars) for every child up to the age of 18 in households making less than 9.6M yen per year, as well as additional payments of 100,000 yen for households that are âstruggling financiallyâ (this is not well defined in the reporting that I am seeing, but I believe that it refers to households who do not earn enough to pay income tax).
On top of that, they are also planning to provide up to 20,000 yen in points (which can be used like cash at most places) to those with a My Number Card (this is a recently introduced national ID card (like the ones used in the EU) that the government really wants everyone to sign up for, but cannot technically force on people). Those who have cards will get 5,000 yen, while those who link their cards to a bank account will get an additional 7,500 yen and those who sign up to replace their Health Insurance Cards with their My Number Cards will get an additional 7,500 yen.
Meanwhile, the government is also planning to bring back their âGo to Travelâ scheme to encourage domestic spending. This scheme was originally started in the summer of 2020 and involved providing hotel vouchers (covering up to half the cost of lodging) and a couple of thousand yen worth of shopping vouchers to people who booked travel (domestic only) through travel agencies participating in the scheme. They had to shut the program down as cases rose in the fall of 2020, but they have been itching to bring it back since then. With cases now averaging about 200 per day nationwide and a good 74% of the population fully vaccinated, it just might work out now.
None of this is set in stone yet, but it is all very likely to happen, possibly with a few minor tweaks.

Not shocked at all by the low vaccination rate in the area. On Sunday I saw what best basically described as a âdick wavingâ parade by Bataviaâs police officers blaring their sirens while escorting bikers and SUVs with a ton of blue line flags going down main street well over the speed limit in busy traffic.

Canât like that, because it really truly spells the end of whatever (dim) hopes we had to make this end. It will become endemic, it will continue to mutate and evolve, and we are left hoping it will evolve away from using humans as its preferred host. Fuck the antivaxxers, the GQP and everyone else in the pro-Covid universe. To the lowest, coldest levels of Hell. And as HCW continue to leave the profession due to burnout and to the effects on covid on our own bodies, thank your local maskholes and covidiots when you die of treatable illnesses and injuries that lack personnel to treat them.
