That seems alarmingly higher than the ~3.4% global average fatality so far. Does the shortage of test kits and proper quarantine procedures mean victims are more likely to be discovered after dying of the disease?

Good ol’ 'Murican health care. /sigh

People at work are freaking tf out.

Not me.

I would, if I were still smoking. I’m most worried about my 94 year old grandma.

This is what we are doing at my place of employ.

A low budget Devo cover band? Shouldn’t you be working instead?

Yeah, or who got sufficiently sick to show up in a hospital and get one of the few available tests. The number of not-seriously sick people not getting tested is going to determine the actual fatality rate, but I don’t know when we’ll get a handle on that, if ever. (All the stories coming from the Trump admin about a million testing kits going out this week turns out to be - shocker! - a total lie.)

Seems like there’s a lot of variability in the death rate, though - countries with a lot of smokers and/or elderly populations aren’t fairing well at all.

On the other hand, this is mine:

Okay, it’s just me. At home.

You work for Lord Buckethead? Makes sense tho, this day in age an intergalactic space warrior needs a North American presence.

I am 1000% sure at this point trump/pence are manipulating or pressuring CDC to hide numbers and reduce testing, everything points to it. Today the EPA did a press release on what to use to kill viruses on surfaces and did a whole bunch of praise for Trump, rather disgusting.

You think this is included in CDC stats?:

could someone please ask the “experts” how long specifically the covid19 virus can survive on surfaces? every virus is different, some say 2 hours, some say “up to 48 hours” and then there are things like norovirus that can survive for weeks on surfaces (hence you are insane to ever take a cruise ship trip /ever/)

It’s great to see the parties come together to vote in favor of socialized medicine.

It takes a lot of effort to stand out among today’s Republican Senate as a truly exceptional piece of human garbage, but by golly he still managed to find a way.

I bet the workplace gossip is out of hand there.

WHO:

It is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 survives on surfaces, but it seems to behave like other coronaviruses. Studies suggest that coronaviruses (including preliminary information on the COVID-19 virus) may persist on surfaces for a few hours or up to several days. This may vary under different conditions (e.g. type of surface, temperature or humidity of the environment).
If you think a surface may be infected, clean it with simple disinfectant to kill the virus and protect yourself and others. Clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose.

Never a better compliment ever.

Thanks for that. The only problem with the WHO statement is that they also initially said the incubation time can be 14 days but then upgraded it to possibly 24 days.
