More than just a fear issue; a threat model that seems deeply confused in an actively counterproductive way:
If you are worried about a scenario that impairs or destroys the ability to exchange money for food then sure, there’s a case to be made for making the exchange now while you still can in order to have the food at that time.
Unemployment isn’t that scenario, though: it certainly does bad things to your supply of money; but has no effect on your ability to exchange money, if you have it, for food. In that case buying the food ahead of time is really just increasing the risk that some non-food expense will be what gets you.
