The judge denied the son’s request for treble damages, which can be awarded under Michigan’s conversion statute.
Apparently, the plaintiff asked for triple damages so as to make a federal case of it.
The parents earlier asked that the lawsuit be dismissed. They argued that the property did not have sufficient value to meet the $75,000 threshold for damages in federal court. They also said they did not break the law because they did not convert the property to their own use. David Werking, who claimed losses of over $25,000, sought treble damages, which would allow the lawsuit to proceed in federal court, U.S. District Judge Paul Maloney in Kalamazoo wrote in an opinion.

Wow, the parents actually tried to argue they kept the “worst of the worst” out of concern some of it was bestiality and child porn, which definitely would have sent the plaintiff to jail. Given that he did NOT (it was apparently investigated), there are clearly deep issues between him and his parents that they would outright lie to the court.
Granted, it seems he has some issues as well because that’s a HECK of a lot of porn.

I’ve never been but the Wikipedia page says one of the permanent exhibits at the museum is called “The Sex in the Third Reich Exhibit” so apparently that’s a thing. But who am I to question Dr. Hartmann’s take on how such things should be valued?
