CRISPR twins who had their genes edited also had their brains altered to make them smarter, scientists believe

I hate this quote.
Mudskipper says “come at me bro.”

Of course this is just the start. If you don’t think people get their value from God, you’ll always end up pegging human value to some lesser idol – like intelligence (or beauty, health etc) – creating a scale from subhumans to Übermenschen. We’ve done it before and we’ll do it again.

I literally have that on a t-shirt. Which I used to wear around the lab.

I’m struck that the victims of this research are destined to grow up as girls. Is this a continuation of China’s idolization of boys from their one child programme? Are girls thought to be more disposable, and, therefore, better guinea pigs?

The twist in the image looked off to me so i tried copying it, It strains with your back and that’s without holding anything. This looks like terrible manual handling

Most insidious? That they end up smart but unhappy, mentally unstable dying at a young age etc. This would give future parents a choice to modify their children to let them be successful, but at a high price. If the gain is big enough there will always be parents willing to go through with it regardless of the side effects.

You need to be a trained professional to do that.
And wear a red swimsuit.

Squirrel says, “Oh, it’s on”. Video goes viral. Mudskipper’s self-esteem never recovers.

Ok, so why is that a problem? Wealthy people pay for better food, better medical care, better education, etc. One of the benefits of this tech is the elimination of genetically transmitted health problems like CF and Down’s syndrome. You might say it’s not fair to those who can’t afford it but when has life ever been fair?

I think we can perhaps at least strive to make it more fair rather than less.

I mean, I know some big guys with stout sticks. Can I come and get them to nick all your stuff?

You might say that’s not fair to those with fewer stout-stick-wielding friends but when has life ever been fair?

Yup, exactly. How many great minds were wasted, and perhaps more importantly, are currently being wasted?

[sarcasm] Crispr is a genedrive, yes it will be there at first for a few but in enough generations everybody gets it, even those in the genetic 3rd world. [/sarcasm]

I could see a problem where multiple variants screw over each other creating crispr related new deseases and inherited inabilities.
