Crowd Sourced Gentrification - Homes for 1€ in Sicily. Catch: You pay for renovations

“To buy a house, after choosing it on our website, you will need to contact the Municipality of Mussomeli to check availability. Afterwards, it will be necessary to go to Mussomeli to carry out an inspection, thanks to which you will take note of the situation of the building, and therefore of the expenses that will have to be incurred during the renovation. After that, it will be possible to fill in the model for the purchase request. Is the entire town abandoned? Are the citizens being made into artisanal rugs or something?

Folks are still there they are just having a hard time selling anything. For good reasons.

“Zungoli and Mussomeli aren’t the only Italian towns to offer cheap homes; villages across Italy are trying to sell properties for one euro or less, as long as owners take care of the renovations. Despite the country’s natural beauty, the fall in property prices has placed a major strain on the country’s economy — making it difficult to sell homes.” -Thisisinsider

For the brave and wealthy it might be a fun project.
