Called “fintechs,” the companies billed themselves as computer-savvy middlemen who could help get government money from approved lenders into the hands of small businesses struggling after the pandemic hit in the spring of 2020. The fintechs claimed their artificial intelligence software would automatically check applicants’ picture IDs uploaded to PPP application portals.
But scores of scammers uploaded the doll faces instead. And they got money – no questions asked.

Debit cards exist in Brussels, no?
No.
I guess letting her haters and supporters chase loose/possibly non-existent threads/stories is a strategy she’s been doing for quite some time now. I guess ARGs and sowing confusion about gossip are viable strategies
Also… happy cake day!!!
I skimmed the article, but are they just proposing something like a euro-coin?
A few years ago, brazil created a protocol to transfer money digitally called pix, where a person can just register a code linked to one of their bank accounts, usually human-readable like a phone number of an ID, and anyone can transfer money from their accounts to that person, and currently it has no fees.
Because of that, there is no discussion of creating a digital-real, because that already covers most uses and already interfaces with the banking system.
A bit off-topic, but that was a great example of the state acting as a state should act, creating something just to generate positive externalities, even if it involved imposing that the banks must also implement it.
There were already a very mature credit/debit card ecosystem here (the risk of being mugged do great to accelerate their adoption), which still exist, but the new solution also covers some people that were left behind and some new uses.

“Privatized gains; socialized losses” is so ingrained in the mindset that they regularly re-invent socialism to deal with setbacks.
They ignored two bits of ancient wisdom:
Did they dump the hex profile pics for NFTs?

The Apecoin (APE) price shows no signs of an imminent bounce even though it has fallen to a new all-time low.
