I would say Edward Said is rolling in his grave, but he’s too confused…

In 1979, Bush was only 20 years old. Maybe we can chalk this one up to naivety of youth?

Sure. It’s a delightful mess, tho.

I’ve been inoculated against U2 decades ago. Every exposure to them merely strengthens my immunity. Bring it on, I’m too strong.

Subcultures in Dublin in the 80s…

[ETA] From Belfast in the 80s and early 90s…

[ETA] I’m struck by the differences in accents in the last video between the first kids and the skinhead… am I right to think the skinhead had a much more working class accent?

If it were a few years ago, they would have been considered Rhythm and Blues.

Sorry, but one more… over 40 minutes this time…

Not from Belfast most of them. Indie: middle class, can’t tell Catholic or protestant. Goth guy middle class Protestant from Down or thereabouts, though possibly a rural Catholic (towns are more mixed landowners tend to be protestant). skinhead working class Catholic from a border county possibly Tyrone. Maybe a bit east of that.

My best guesses from a quick flip. I’m cooking at the moment.
