Daft Punk breaks up

Two turntables and a microphone does not a group make.

They’ve never been a two turntables and a microphone group. Early stuff is nearly all vintage analogue synths, later stuff had LA session musicians. They had sample based stuff in the middle and I would assume any live show they did was primarily sample based (not when I saw them in… 95 or so, they had the synths and drum machines synced up) because that’s the process most people have done since they first started fiddling with coloured spreadsheets from Germany on stage about 20 years ago. More experimental ones used flowcharts.

Hardware being at the centre of live electronic performance has been a trend in the last five or so years.
