Dataviz of burger-satisfaction rankings

I recently tried a 5 Guys (there are a couple in my area and have only been around a few years now) I hope it was just bad timing or something, but the place was filthy, like the aforementioned french fry bomb went off, but with the addition of peanut shells. The burger and fries were good, but not significantly better than what I could have gotten just a block or two over at local diner Louies for a better price. I don’t get the hype and really hope the state of cleanliness I encountered was a fluke.

Never thought I’d see a Persona 4 meme here. Well done.

I’m not a fast food person, but if it’s burgers I usually gravitate to Smashburger, which is pretty good and if you don’t care for beef, they do a decent chicken patty, or veggie if that’s your thing. They are kinda new so not ubiquitous yet. Red Robin also does a good one, but it’s $10+ a burger and not a fast food place, so not in the same category.

Hear me out, what if there’s a better way to rank burgers?

There are Culver’s locations in Phoenix AZ

Whatabburger is like lots of things from Texas. Texans think it’s hot shit but it’s really just average. Shiner beer and the hill country, I’m looking at you. Now Texas bbq, that really is the real deal.

I like 5 guys, but its massively overpriced.

And its even more annoying that its overpriced when there are goddamn signs on the walls at EVERY ONE proclaiming the “best 5$ buger” etc.

You can’t get a damn drink for less than 5$ in there it seems. My burger is always near 12$!

Carl’s junior is just pure lard on everything, their caloric counts are off the damn charts.

I don’t know most of these- we have Wendys and McDonald’s, Carl’s Jr is rare in PA. 5 Guys we have, Sonic is rare, Steak n Shake. none of the others.

I skip this junk and get a hamburger at Tessaro’s in Pittsburgh.

The thing to understand about Whataburger is taquitos at 3am.

Gotta say I really enjoy Carl’s Jr. too.

edited to add: Shiner is meh, Now Sierra Nevada Torpedo, or the Knightro Stout they make for Celtic Festival…

Were you raised in the midwest?

Yup. Midwest is best.

LA and NYC are very parochial.

Five Guys is almost always outstanding, but I’m certain experience varies from location to location (same for all the others on this list). I’ve found Whataburger to be a little overrated, but I’ve only gone twice.

Also, if you’re ever near New Buffalo, Michigan go try a burger at Redamak’s. Bring cash.

I’ve eaten at Carl’s Jr. exactly once, and it was the saddest fast food experience of my life so far. It was on Interstate 8 somewhere between Phoenix and San Diego, and was the only option for miles. The lighting was dim, the place was packed but everyone was alone and not talking, the burgers we were served looked like someone had just finished sitting on them and tasted like they had been made a couple days earlier. We ate about half our food and then escaped. Never again.

Nah. Not with that attitude.

I love Whataburger, but I couldn’t say whether it would be good or bad for anyone else. They are just so much the taste of home to me. When I want a burger, Whataburger is the taste I’m craving.

An hour outside of Barstow, good burgers are going to be the least of your worries. Can’t you see all these goddamn bats!?
