DEA deputy director: "Every single parent" opposes pot legalization

I have seven children between the ages of 15 and 23 (blended family). They are pretty much anti-drug and anti-alcohol, certainly more than their parents. Marijuana should be legalized, because the worst thing about it (as I’ve told the kids) is that you can be arrested for it. Most of the other drawbacks to marijuana use would be done away with if we legalize it and separate it from the illegal trade of more dangerous drugs.

The things I’ve tried to teach them about responsible alcohol use apply to marijuana, but we refuse to address those things as a country because of the legal ramifications. Legalize it, empty the prisons, bring the price down, erase the mystique of pot use, and we will all see that the sky will not fall.

imagine that!

It honestly sounds like the oblivious reply that a creation would argue with.

ETA - I’m a parent and want weed legal. I would even go so far as legalize the harder stuff.

I would REALLY prefer she wait until 19ish to partake (as I think there is evidence of potential damage to still developing brains) and think we should have similar limits like we do with drinking and smoking, but he is totally wrong that every parent is buying the bullshit the of the War on Drugs still.

But the bottom will fall out of alcoholic beverage stocks.

No. No it won’t.

… is that a personal commitment?

Indeed. I am good, moral and white (for given values of the three) and strongly favour legalizing it. Also a parent.

Is this the thrashing about of the loonies before the legalization? Are they getting desperate in their appeals to moral panic?

I’m pretty much chaotic neutral, and I hope I’ve been a better parent than I sometimes think, but I’m in favour as well.
(I’m white too. Does that help?)

I’ve always seen myself as Neutral Good, and occasionally chaotic good. In my dark moments I find myself being (at best) lawful neutral as a parent, which is unfortunate.

No, man, it takes a village. It’s just a ridiculous notion that people would stop drinking beer and wine if they could smoke mj legally.

I know, I was just ticklin’ ya. But I bet the drinks lobby is not pro-hash.

They’d be fools, then, wouldn’t they?

When they get to their pre-ordained special places in hell, the fools they are shall become evident to them.

Aren’t lobbyists pretty much the definition of short-sighted, greedy fools, in the main?
