BBC just reported that Mike Yarwood died today. You probably need to be a UKian and of a certain age for that to mean anything. He was one of the earliest (if not the first) impressionist to actively impersonate and send up UK politicians.

No BBC or Guardian obit is online yet.

ETA, the next day…

For those that don’t know, Mike Yarwood owned Saturday night on telly in the 70s, much as Morecambe & Wise did. 21 million viewers for his Xmas special. He faded because impressions date fast so he never got repeats (unlike M&W).

I think the part in the one-box (and actual article) where they said “first African-American man to sail…” is much more verifiable than “first Black man”, as Africans have been sailing for millennium too, not just Europeans and Polynesians.
