I watched this yesterday, and I was very much impressed by the bearded guy. It took me a while to figure out it’s Dostoevskij. Re: deepfaking, I wonder if the future has little avatars of authors reading their stories to us on holographic display units…

I think back to all the virtual reality dystopia SF I read growing up and now realize how simple-minded my nightmares were. Society is too large for face-to-face contact alone, and our technology is too good at fabricating all but face-to-face contact.

Surely, the first thing that must have gone through the minds of the developers of this new technique must have been: “This is great to make any presidential candidate look bad and make people lose faith in democracy!”
Just think about the application of this plus AR (augmented reality). It reminded me of the Black Mirror episode about grief.
If you work with the Entertainment industry, deepfake is a real godsend (there was a comparison with Leia in the last movie X Leia using deepfake that was surprisingly good)
We already have the dystopic political scandals using deepfake happening, I would like to see the utopian cases.
