Can we please stop talking about broken bones, and get back to how my wife and kids are without power? (not me, though, I’m in an air-conditioned office eating shrimp from the truck out front. yum yum!)
Didn’t the ER explain that the reduction (pressing down on the bones to put them back in alignment…yeah) was worth it because it gave a 60% likelihood that I wouldn’t need surgery to make the wrist functional? And didn’t the specialist today confirm that the statistic is accurate, and the shifting seen since the cast was put on Sunday night is just barely within parameters, so all depends on whether there is any more shifting this week? Isn’t it crucial that I not do anything that could exacerbate the situation?
The body’s healing capabilities, especially with stuff to do with the hand and wrist, are weirdly awesome, something to do with the blood flow to the area and the way the brain ups hormones to injuries there… has something to do with the nerve density and neural complexity of the brain to hand linkage… I sort of am mangling this eh?
If you’ll excuse the terrible humour, don’t I have my fingers crossed for you?
You will get through this. It will suck a lot. You have a free pass to feel angry and rotten for the next (checks watch) two years, and you have a free pass to express it. You are under no obligation to be happy, but we want to try to help you be happy.
(I’ve had three wrist breaks, and another fracture so bad it also put me in a cast. This is a club noone wants to join… But welcome!!!)
