Anyone else use “pumpkin spice” in baked goods where normally only cinnamon is listed? Isn’t that a much better use of the spice than in every friggin’ item of savory food and beverage on the planet?

Didn’t I just chop up some feta to put into the pasta salad? Wouldn’t we have preferred halloumi instead?
Why pickle cheese when grilling and roasting are available options instead?

Not exactly that, but don’t I add a touch of cloves (just a touch, or it will overwhelm!) to my apple pie filling, whereas most recipes seem to call for just cinnamon plus a small amount of nutmeg?
And hmm, just now I saw a recipe including ginger in the filling, doesn’t that sound good too?

Traditionally (as in, The Old Farmer’s Almanac, among other venerable publications) aren’t the ingredients of “pumpkin pie spice” listed as: cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg or mace, cloves, and allspice?

That sounds right for pumpkin pie spice…what I meant was I saw a recipe with ginger in an apple pie, which I didn’t say clearly, and that that seemed not-usual to me?
And…doesn’t my most well-received “plain” pound cake recipe have the “secret” (i.e., unexpected and hard for most people to identify in it) flavoring ingredient of ground white pepper, in addition to vanilla and a touch of allspice?
