Funny, I first thought this was something along the lines of the bread lamps that my (admittedly, quite eccentric) wife has made with bread and olive oil.
Here are the instructions for making one if you’re ever in a situation where you need illumination when your power is out and you also don’t have any flashlights, candles or lanterns handy:
