Why would a British tv station have to give the information to the CIA?
I’d worry that he actually handed them an enemies list – Shia, Sufis, various other opponents. Presumably/hopefully the recipients of this info would think of this.

There are ways to pass it on without personally doing it.
His intention was to fuck ISIS. This was the worst way to do it!

Because the press would have been gagged if it had been the other way around. The media not announcing this would have been very in the public interest.
