DIY: Feral cat Shelters from coolers

You could fit a lot of cats in these

Sling a bottle in one hole, get a cat out of the other.

Bird populations are crashing, down 30%. Birds are not just ornamental, they are keystone species that we must have for our own survival. Cats kill up to 3.7 BILLION birds a year in CONUS alone. Spay and neuter doesn’t help since only a few fertile ones can maintain the population. Domestic indoor kitties are wonderful and I love them. Outdoor cats are our enemies.

In Pearland TX, some folks would welcome that to cut down on the feral ducks.

What would make these shelters even better, would be a cheap chemical method for seeing if the cat that uses the shelter, is still fertile, or if it needs to be spayed/neutered. Maybe like a replaceable pad that changes color in the presence of certain pheromones, something like that.

Then you could argue this was a measure aimed at solving a problem, instead of merely managing a problem.

The marketplace has decided that although neither birds nor feral cats will let you pet them, cats are at least theoretically pettable. And so given a choice between wild cats and wild birds, consumers of wilderness prefer wild cats.

Skinny raccoons. Which don’t seem to be the kind which hang around people.

Given a challenge all raccoons are skinny. The only thing stopping them from squeezing into that PVC pipe is that your attic is more inviting.

I wouldn’t want to be the one opening the box. Unlike Schrodinger’s Cat.
There’s a third state that the cat can be in, furious.
