yes, I borrowed the name “Killick” from O’Brian. Both ginseng and the various mushrooms seem hard to find, with the particular mushrooms taking expertise to identify. Maybe it has to do more with the disjointed parks in New England-- some owned by towns, some by the state, and a few federal vs. the Great Smokies with one federal jurisdiction. There are probably many New England parks officials that either don’t know or don’t care about mushroom foraging.
