Is it a Lhasa Apso? Because they do that when they are pleased to see you. Our dog does the same thing but at a lower pitch, being twice the size.
Translation problems. The Hebrew for horse is roughly the same as the Latin for pig, and you can see how that could have caused misunderstandings with the Romans.
