Yeah, no. There was some good and some bad, NAFTA notwithstanding Mexico is doing a lot better than it was 20 years ago. What NAFTA really did was to keep Mexico from signing on to other trade agreements as part of an overall strategy of making sure the dollar as a currency continues to be relevant.
Which is why it’s maddening hear that it was the most unfair trade deal in the history of deals. It was beneficial to the US economy, vital even. (Also because it’s a lie)
They do. And a fuck-load of spare engineers. Plus China has already invested the huge sums of money required to build the manufacturing plants, and everyone is already buying from China. What it adds up to is that no one remotely wants to compete with them, no matter what kind of tariffs are involved (even if they were permanent).
