Yeah, sorry, somehow I hit “reply” and I was like, “Oh shit, I am no where near to the point I am not putting an obvious foot in a mouth or even have half my thought out.” And I couldn’t just leave it with “xxxxxx”. So I pasted what I had. Then I was like shit, that’s his quote - better just edit again to let people know I am in the middle of it.
That is just weird.
Agreed. Thankfully that forum is dying. I’ve joined a facebook fishing group which is a ton more friendly, and filled with latinos and (shocker) not filled with shitheads complaining about immigrants and the like.
Just do what my dad does, go fishing instead of surf the internet
He caught 2000 crappie last year. Thinking of making him a hat.
Never figured out how to get into decent sized Crappie. Might need a boat? I’ve heard they’re delicious.
The reason I hang out in these places is that there is a ton I don’t know about fishing, so it’s a good place to pick people’s brains. Actually have thought about setting up my own site running on Discourse.
But really, I just love fish as animals. I take a picture of just about every catch for identification, and spreadsheets of the species I catch from various bodies of water.
There’s not really any need to overthink this. As with so many things, it comes down to the dichotomy between being your own person and making a good first impression—as notably expressed in this xkcd strip.
Everyone has a choice where they fall on that divide, in regard to particular matters. Many people may feel the same as the speaker in the xkcd strip, who scorns stifling his personal creativity in the hopes of getting a job. Others may not. But when the issue at stake is not merely being employed or not, but wanders into the territory of remaining free or not, people might want to rethink their position.
Do you consider your gun to be primarily a means of personal expression, or a means of protecting yourself at need? If the latter, it seems to me what the subject of the original post is saying is that you should probably bear in mind the potential worst-case scenario, and it might behoove you to stifle your sense of self-expression in favor of, y’know, not getting locked up because you put decals or pink paint jobs on your gun.
Pretty sure it’s never not true.
And is it beyond question that he was not some deranged Dirty Harry/Taxi Driver type?
[edit]
Considering my phrasing here, it looks like I’m advocating that the defendant prove that they’re not a lunatic, here. While with relation to firearms ownership that might have some advantages, I’m not. What I mean is, was the ammunition type taken entirely in isolation to indicate the character of the defendant, or did (as is likely, in my opinion) this information factor into a wider assessment of the individual’s views, attitudes and tendencies? I don’t mean to be funny, but pro-gun sources tend to eliminate the inconvenient from their reporting of such cases a great deal, so I don’t find such hearsay compelling.
Knife-fans do exactly the same.
Are you kidding? Have you seen the rate at which they jam?
2017 was exceptional crappie year
Pff. They only jam if you fail to honor their machine spirit correctly.
the SS sig rune was used as the logo by the USMC Scout Snipers for quite a while until someone finally had an issue with it (probably 20+ years). Many of them even got tattoos to match.
That’s…exactly what he says in the video though? He says that the best thing to do is to use a stock gun, stock ammo, absolutely nothing done to your everyday carry, save that for your fun guns. If you must get a mod, ideally get a mod which I can make the case was necessary to make sure that you can use the gun effectively to save your life, which is the only reason you’re up here on the stand and not 6 feet under. If you get cosmetic stuff like coloring your gun camo and covering it with toxic crusaders stickers it only makes my job harder, because now the DA can claim that you don’t take the gun seriously.
Yeah, but you didn’t make it click-baity. You’re old fashioned!
Here’s a depressing truth, at least in my experience:
“Unless the media or a political campaign become involved, whoever has the most expensive lawyer will win in American courts.”
I agree, to a point. The quality of difference between lawyers is enormous and so much of a trial (IAAL, but not a trial lawyer, YMMV) is weaving a good story. That’s a rare talent and one that exacts a premium.
That said, I spent three days in a jury pool but wasn’t selected for the jury on a 5 week solictic-to-murder trial. A DA v. a Public Defender, I kept up with the case after being dismissed, but the defender managed to get a split verdict (a couple of lesser gang-related offenses got convictions, but the bigger charges were acquittals). I certainly take your point, but it was sort of refreshing to see an honest-to-goodness acquittal!
He does have a boat… well two. Small, cheap boats, but one has a small motor for the local lake, and one is a bit bigger and has bigger motor for the larger larger lake. But if you know where they are, you can reach them by land.
I’m really not sure how this can be a defense, since the Nazi Schutzstaffel logo has been popularly familiar since the '40s. To be unaware of this, especially in the military, demonstrates either gross historical ignorance or willful ignorance/disingenuousness. If they have been doing this for 20 years, then they’ve been idiots for 20 years.
Im not excusing their use of the SS runes, just stating they used it
publicly (more or less) for decades before the USMC authorities had issue
with it.
Which is really, really weird disgusting, if not outright shocking in my view. Incredible. WTF?
Also, do not use hand loaded ammunition. The prosecution will insist you loaded super-lethal-killer rounds even if you really loaded light target ammunition. Use commercial ammunition and if they say a word about it the lawyers for the manufacturer will get involved.
