Can confirm. My late step father was a Vietnam vet, who did some mercenary gigs in the 80s.

Can we just not? Has the world in general, let alone Ireland specifically, suffered enough?
I know, more of same, but in the current climate it makes my hackles rise.

France might have bigger problems than we do. Surprised I havenât read more about this unless it is a sudden development.
There are a lot of bad things going on in France right now. Over the past year of so, it seems as if Macron has been moving steadily further right to appease the fascists and ultra-nationalists and Identitarians. This story shows how well this strategy is working out for him (and how slim his grasp on the lessons of history is).
You mean that former investment bankers make bad politicians!?!
[ETA] things are just getting worse:

My cousin Donny has some good points here heâs not really my cousin Donny, he just looks exactly like him
Why American politicians cannot say the words âIsraeli apartheidâ
Letâs please add âyetâ to the end of that sentence.
Itâs so obviously an apartheid state.
iâve said it on twitter and received a fair amount of abuse for it. and iâm not even a politician.
Wait. Whatâs going on in France?
The same anti-immigrant whinging from the right wing parties that Macron is attempting to placate by pushing for anti-Muslim/immigrant policies that has been going on for a while now.
Ah, so it is just right-wingers saying that the Muslim boogeyman is going to get you. Got it.
edited to remove any suggestion of mental-state.
Not, itâs a dangerous right wing political party with actual MPs who are being placated by the supposed âcentristâ president.
This whole âwingnutâ narrative needs to be ditched, considering that these parties have been gaining actual traction in many major countries, including here. Weâre where we are because people have steadfastly refused to take them seriously, ascribing either mental illness to them or calling them things liek âwingnutsâ. Everyone thought Trump was a wingnut backed by wingnuts and look where we are today.
Okay, just so Iâm clear, the threat of âcivil warâ that is being made by the generals in the head line is not realistic, though? It is right-wingers saying something to scare an intimidate rather than a legitimate threat that anyone is making? The headline made is seem like there is a reasonable threat that civil war in France might be coming.
Agree about âwingnutâ. I will refrain from its use.
Itâs as realistic as they want to make it. They are the ones making the barely veiled threat that they will take action if the government does not. Itâs france, so itâs sort of has a history of overthrowing their government. The last time there was a shake up over related matters was in 1958, when the 4th republic collapsed to be replaced by the current 5th republic under de Gaulle under military pressure.
So yes, a military coup that leads to the collapse of the current government is entirely possible. Macron will do what he can to stop that form happening so that means âmeetingâ the racist right âhalf-wayââŠ
oh and
