Edward Snowden is almost broke

Because no government or power has ever in the entirety of history once jailed someone for financing something they don’t like.

Not ever.

I seem to recall Snowden getting a job in Russia in IT, or something to that effect, in an article posted right here on BB. Or am I losing it?

No, I remember that too. That was posted earlier this week, I think.

Well, I’ve got a job, and I’m broke.

I hear ya. I just wonder how broke, like completely destitute or just scraping by broke. I think that the best way to funnel money is through his parents and not a website. I suppose that they could be charged with aiding and abetting, but there would be an uproar if these people were thrown in jail. At least I would hope so.

I doubt it would ever be allowed to get from them to Snowden. I’d have thought his lawyer would be a better bet.

Subtlety and nuance don’t exist in your universe, do they? Or do you get paid to be so binary?

The Office of Foreign Asset Control keeps a “Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons” list, which is essentially just a giant list of everyone you’re not supposed to do any business with or trade funds with if you’re an American citizen. The list is supposed to be designed to keep terrorists from getting funding from US individuals or companies and to keep sanctions in place, such as our embargo on Cuba.

It’s a publicly accessible list, and Edward Snowden does not appear on it right now.

That’s not to say the government wouldn’t come after you for helping him, but he’s not actually listed as someone US citizens aren’t supposed to business with right now.

Statements like this say a lot more about the author than those they’re directed at.

Well it’s already embarrassed the US considerably. It’s not costing them anything to keep him there, so is that not reward enough? What makes you think a country needed something from him in return for letting him cross their border? Contrary to popular belief the US isn’t the boss of everyone.

And anyway, wouldn’t it kind of completely defy the point of him sacrificing his life as he knew it to release these documents, to subsequently hold them back and use them as payment to get into a place he’d likely rather not be… all because he’d taken those documents?

For your sake I hope you’re a troll, otherwise you’re just silly.

I posted the link to prompt bumblefuck Cory Docwhatever to put up just this article like the unthinking sheep that he is and make him even more a target of derision. And he did. So predictable.

1 day old, 4 posts. They’re a troll.

Yep, but a good one. Well-spoken, putting some spelling glitches in their to draw attention away, that kind of thing.

Troll Mk 2.

I never spot them myself - only by the time it’s too late. My father is a very advanced troll, but it has taught me nothing :frowning:

Have to admit, that made me laugh.

I spotted it on the first post! Someone well educated somewhat ham-handedly coming in, mixture of tactics, charging about like a bull, tempering statements, camouflaged liberal-sympathetic statements - someone building a house in BBS, or should I say a hide.

The spelling is a mockery. I’ve always thought GW Bush faked the mispronunciations, and this is the tactic wheeled out here, which indicates to me a politics study, I’d like to think Oxbridge PPE because that would be damn fun to play with.
