Since it’s no longer a verification symbol but has become a unwanted stigma symbol, maybe it’s time for a class action libel lawsuit.
Mark of the Suck of Zuck.
I thought it was the lawsuits and making Twitter a safe space for celebs. Now it’s just a safe space for Elno.
I had no idea Twitter’s hand was forced in this regard. Wow, truly any responsible thing any corporation has ever done has been the result of multiple lawsuits.
It’s no surprise that an app originally intended to broadcast SMS messages blundered into dangerous legal ground, but Elno has no excuse.
I don’t think there’s been any good cases establishing Twitter can’t be held liable for impersonation, and his fake checks only dig that pit deeper.
A concise summary of every single thing Elno has done to Twitter…
Except he has no idea how to actually monetize it, so it’s a hilariously crap business model. Which just makes it extra stupid - he doesn’t understand Twitter, he misidentified problems, he turns things that weren’t problems into problems, then doesn’t know how to deal with those…
Yep, and people, largely on the right, saw it like the usual status symbols of consumer society rather than what is is: a symbol which (often) correlated with status… which was further confused as it dovetails into the whole social media thing of (internet) fame as a job.
Right. It was kind of a self-fulfilling thing. Entities with “status” are at risk of impersonation so they get a check mark which basically says this entity is “important” enough it needs some sort of protection against impersonation. It was a fine solution to a real problem (although the validation process itself seemed to be a clusterfuck at times). It wasn’t something that needed a “solution” but of course Musk doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing so he turns it into yet another money making scheme and ruins the intent behind it.
Lol, thanks. I was proud of that one!
