To be fair, though, I think that just because someone can write good art that’s feminist doesn’t mean that that translates into their personal life. It’s easy enough to say the right things and still not DO them.

Really good point. I would find it hard to understand how someone could write/direct with such understanding and still behave that way, but I guess other people are better at compartmentalizing or rationalizing than I am.

Bill Cosby had a genuinely groundbreaking progressive family sitcom in which his on-screen character was a loving, loyal husband who regularly lectured his son about the importance of respecting women, so it definitely happens.
