My favorite big data aphorism (I’ve been seeing variations since 2013 or so, I have no idea where first cause is or I’d attribute) is “Big Data, n.: the belief that any sufficiently large pile of shit contains a pony with probability approaching 1.”
More importantly, when does Big Data become Big Data Kane?
And also the belief that in a pile of shit large enough to contain a pony by random chance, you are capable of sifting through that shit and finding the pony sometime before the sun goes nova.
