If this is surprising you haven’t been paying attention. The ‘backdoor’ doings of PD’s is unfortunate but facial recognition is a thing of the present. It’s a little bit futuristic at this point but there’s a good show out there called Person of Interest that is based on surveillance and widespread facial recognition. Except for the predictive algorithms, which are a little too good, I see the rest of the show as a predictor of a not too distant future.

I know this is an aside to the whole surveillance police state problem, but things like this make me think the objective analysis of the modern world has really gone overboard. People are experts at facial recognition. If a person can’t look at 2 photos and tell if they are the same person, why would software written by another person be able to?

Most people by into it, though. If cops tell a jury that 2 images that don’t look like the same person are, and they’re sure because the computer said so, then most people will buy it. Because the computer says so.

Just want to make for curtain? Mission Accomplished.

Yep. As noted many times in these here forums, one of the major purposes of algorithms (especially of law enforcement nature) is b/c people have come under the delusion that relying on computer-made decisions limits liability and responsibility.

This is pathetic on so many levels, and the cherry on top is that someone had the idiotic notion that keeping this shit on the DL via an email listserv was viable.

Once again, we see that China was always a test market for what will happen in the U.S.

At least they’re making “curtain” to ID the right perp.

And so it begins, the start of total police presence, at all times.

Soon, Facebook will turn your cameras on while you’re taking a shit, and it will be used to livestream to a police database to catch you for jaywalking. And reeducation.

You laugh. Its happening, right fucking now, in broad ass daylight all over China. It’s not being hid or stopped.

If someone finds a way to abuse tech, it will be done on a global scale. Its being done right now.
