My brother dove on that boat many times and I’ve done my share of live-aboards. I think when these horrors are visited upon people doing pretty much exactly what you do – especially for fun – it’s particularly hard to stomach.
A hunting or an ATV accident, while tragic, doesn’t hit home in quite the same way because I don’t do that.
Absolutely scary as hell, since almost every liveaboard has/had a jumbled pile of extension cords and batteries in some area where a fire would create tragic consequences.
Plus an engine fire or other below-deck issue would be right near everyone’s quarters.
I’d like to think this incident brought every charter and liveaboard to review/improve their safety protocols, but the odds are as slim as some margins.
You guys are making me not to ever want to over night on a small boat…
And that channel has other good/tragic stories on it. I am subscribed.
The silver lining is how many of them featured drastically changed safety laws.
