The Soul Franchise for the backwater planet Earth was bought out in a leveraged buyout by the Great Lord Mammon from That Palestinian Carpenter Guy ™.
Philosophical Approval arraigned by The Federalist Society. Financing secured by Jamie Dimon, Legal services provided by Dewey, Chetum and Howe. Green Washing and Astroturfing services provided by Koch Industries
Spokesman for That Palestinian Carpenter Guy said “this was a fair deal considering that marketed research showed that if our CEO returned to Earth he would again be the subject of a State sponsored execution.”
Spokesman for the Great Lord Mammon stated that “we’ve never been to a planet more welcoming than Earth. This is a win for all time.”
Or maybe it’s just that I’m old enough to realize that for every change in society that you like and would prefer to go faster there is another you dislike and where you cheer inertia that slows it down. I suspect most people here are happy about every obstacle put in the way of bans on abortions that Republicans try to implement.
Slow progress may be frustrating, but it is still progress.
It’s true…people who are unhappy that women are still being hurt also tend to be wish efforts to hurt women more would go slower or, you know, stop entirely. But it’s quite the hot take to think that means all changes should be slow, instead of that changes should be in the direction of not hurting people. One that, frankly, someone with actual ‘skin in the game’ would never come up with.
Likewise saying that slow progress may be frustrating. Those of us who can find it frustrating are lucky, because I assure you that word is thoroughly inadequate to describe what it’s like for rape victims and people at risk of becoming rape victims. Maybe try paying attention to them sometimes, because apparently there are things you missed noticing on the way to be old.
Right? If only those undergoing persecution, oppression and genocide would have more patience, their complaints will be heard in the order in which they were received…
This topic (rightly!) has brought up a lot of strong positions and feelings surrounding it. Two requests to think about before you post:
Real people have been victims of assault. Including those who have been brave enough or otherwise free to choose to come forward directly here on the BBS or elsewhere, and those who have not. Keep in mind these discussions may not be theoretical to those you are conversing with. Respect the gravity of the events that lead to this incarceration in the first place.
You are welcome to give your opinion here, but do so while respecting the right of others to disagree or think differently than you do. Nothing is accomplished by deciding that “everyone here” believes one way or the other. Literally thousands of people read the BBS every day. The mindset of “I am right and other positions are clearly worthless” is a toxic way to view discussion, and never leads to anything positive. If you expect people to extend respect when they converse with you, respect their position and their comments in-kind - and do flag posts where you think that is not happening.
