They are basically extortion fees. What happened to the idea of a free market? If you have to punish your customers for leaving, then it is clear you don’t think to highly of your service. Basically using the stick to keep them, vs a carrot making them want to stay.

Until SCOTUS rules that the Federal Communications Commission does not have the authority to regulate communications.

While we’re at it, lets make it a requirement that you can leave the same way as you joined - online - and not have to speak to a retention specialist.
