Ugh. It’s all so predatory and disheartening. Thanks to you and @Mister44 and @alahmnat for the thoughtful responses. I’m a big dork for the G.I. Joe comics through childhood nostalgia and there’s a lot of vile folks in that fandom. I assumed they were there because of the military angle, despite the fact that the Joes are literal warriors for social justice. But maybe it’s just that the hateful will find a way to seep in and attempt to corrupt anything they can. I was assuming there’s nothing in the magical pony world to appeal to them, though corrupting things and shitting on good people seems to be enough to keep them creeping on various fandoms.
OK, thanks for the clarification. Sarcasm strikes again.
I mean, Hitler was a big fan of Disney, and supposedly loved Snow White especially. I am sure some of his goons shared in his appreciation of the animation. So I am sure any genre and fandom has the potential to have some fans be assholes or worse, and they eventually find each other and stain the fandom.
There are a lot of bands, heavy metal, industrial, etc with fascist fans. And some bands have the baggage where they wanted to make cool fantasy or viking inspired metal - and you got nationalists taking that in a non-intended direction. As a huge KMFDM fan, I am still dismayed there are Columbine stans (another thing to make you throw up in your mouth a little) who are into the band because their songs were mentioned on the killers’ website. Even though the band abhorred their actions.
Like I saw a guy on a Stormtrooper builder page sharing pics of him posing with the American flag other “patriotic” type settings. And wanted to go to schools and events to send a pro-America/Star Wars message. Or something. I didn’t have the spoons that day to question the wisdom of equating the US with a literal evil empire. And I say that having a suit of armor I need to finish putting together.
So yeah… the message of the content or the content of it self doesn’t stop horrible people from adopting it and twisting it around
And now you know…
Its easier to acquire an assault rifle than it is to:
Vote
Obtain effective birth control
Terminate a pregnancy
Cover major healthcare costs without going bankrupt
Find a job without organized labor where blue collar work pays living wages
And the stress of that insecurity and lack of access drives some people to empower themselves with firearms, racial identity politics, and conspiracy theories. That’s not freedom, it’s misdirection.
The GOP is stealing from their constituents with one hand and waving off what they see as acceptable losses with the other.
No, to legally obtain an assault rifle a person must be at least 21 years old and undergo a background check which can take up to a full year, among other conditions. The rifle itself must have been manufactured prior to 1986. I suspect the article is wrong when it says Scott Hole used an assault rifle.
i did a bad thing , i googled this exact phrase !
which led to Military 'bronies' love their rifles and their My Little Pony
where i found Facebook
eventually , fortunately , my drugs kicked in and i pulled away
for the sake of whatever sanity you may have left , i beg you , do not repeat my errors !!

Nope. Indiana doesn’t even have permits for handguns, let alone for long guns. 18 years old is the minimum age for “long guns” in the state.
Background checks are a joke nationwide thanks to the NRA hobbling any effort at national level data collection.
That’s for a fully automatic. Any idiot over 18 with a relatively clean police record can legally get their hands on an AR platform rifle.
Really not the point.
You are conflating machine guns and assault weapons. It became illegal to trade fully automatic rifles in 1986 without special dispensation from the ATF. An assault weapons ban followed in the mid '90s and expired in 2004.
Firearms enthusiasts and manufacturers enjoy rules-lawyering about what is and what isn’t an assault weapon and that has led to the proliferation of many rifles and pistols which comply with the letter of the law and still manage to facilitate mass shootings on a daily basis in this country.
People are unfortunately very good at Doing It Wrong, whether we’re talking about religion, political ideology, or indeed just fandom.
If I may ask the sludgy question, is there an interactive Applejack sex toy and maybe there should be?
Ah, found it.
Perhaps they see the community of friendly horses as an allegory of a peaceful, happy, racially pure white society.
Your question in a thread about a murderer with an obsession with a kids toy is “Where can I get a fuckable one?”
Seriously, dude, what the fuck?
It’s possible, but in that case they are (of course) Doing It Wrong, again. One of the show’s core messages is that diversity is not just morally good, but pragmatically good as well. Equestria’s founding story is all about the three pony races (unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies) being worse off when they’re feuding and competing with one another, and how cooperation and friendship between the races is what makes Equestria strong and healthy.
In the later seasons, there’s also the School of Friendship with its non-pony students, whose diverse viewpoints and talents are shown to be a source of strength and resilience, and one of the villains is a xenophobic government bureaucrat opposed to all these non-ponies coming to Equestria to study there.
None of this surprises me. There’s always been nazis trying to rope in kids in all fandoms. Whether it’s MLP, Star Wars, or even Star Trek (I kid you not). Nazis and others know these are vehicles for socialization and so they’re using them as a way in. Plus, many social circles in fandoms shield their own even if they’re bad actors (think sex pests, rapists, etc). It’s also a problem in the furry fandom which makes me sad as a former furry (MUDs mostly).
Star Trek Nazis have to be as clueless (or intentional) as conservative Rage Against The Machine fans.
IKR but there’s so many that latch onto a thin sliver of militarism in Star Trek and demand the fictional universe affirm their bad ideas. It’s like how Nazis unironically love Tolkien but not realize that he even regretted making orcs irredeemable as a Catholic and author. Nazis keep making things about them rather than just going the eff away.
Nailed it. For every 249,999 normal “American” minded gun owners, we now have the one in 250,000 [abnormal one].
Yeah. And looking up slick modern wear clothes and gadgets - Just plain tired of the NRA.
both.
