Aside from the obvious beer joke, which somebody got to way earlier, I was going to comment that even though I’ve been making home-fermented sauerkraut for a year or so, I don’t eat the stuff raw, just cooked, so it probably doesn’t have that effect. But somebody mentioned kimchi, which is pretty much the same thing, and I do eat it raw (or cooked, in some dishes in restaurants), and of course pickles are raw.
