I have a clear memory of the first time I heard “Howl”. A late night DJ on wwoz played a recording of Ginsberg reading it one night, don’t recall why. At the time I’d never heard of the poem or Ginsberg, but it immediately resonated with my teenaged self and I still remember the feeling of lying in my dark bedrooom listening

Oh, I see. Not the first reading, but the first time it was recorded.

The famous reading was of course Oct 7, 1955 in San Francisco, with the other beats.
