“California’s Salk Institute for Biological Studies is developing a plant that can store excess carbon dioxide in its roots, in a bid to curb the effects of climate change.”

“The Harnessing Plants Initiative aims to create plants with the ability to retain an increased amount of carbon in the soil once they decompose rather than returning it to the air – a process called carbon sequestration.”

“Implemented on a global scale, this could reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, and with it reduce the warming of the earth.”

Oh, it’s a little sneakier than that. See, BC has almost nothing in the way of oil reserves, and is currently in a battle with Alberta over pipelines that would pipe crude through BC and money back to Alberta while BC shoulders all the environmental risk. OTOH, what we do have is massive hydroelectric generation capacity. And one power company, that just happens to be owned by the government.

Currently, most zero-emissions vehicles are plug-in electric. Guess who’s going to be raking in all that cash not being spent at the gas pump. And taking credit for a boosted economy while charging infrastructure gets built.

“If the climate lawsuit does end up going to trial, it could become a historical marker in the battle against climate change, a public forum for assigning blame about who should be ultimately responsible.”

“There would be “submissions of evidence, taking of testimony and cross-examination—all the stuff that we see in movies,” Powers said, as plaintiffs attempted to prove that the federal government knowingly boosted a fossil fuel industry while pollution destabilized the climate. “They would produce and generate a great deal of very interesting information,” she said.”

From the CNN article:

A recent CNN poll found that 82% of Democrats or Democratic-leaning independents find climate change to be a “very important” issue, ranking it at the top of the list ahead of universal health care, tighter gun laws and impeaching Drumpf.

This is before we take into account that this existential issue affects most young people, the future of the party.

So why avoid the discussion? The DNC establishment, like the GOP establishment, likely knows it’s already too late to avoid some of the worst outcomes of global warming. That’s not to say that it’s still in denial or that it’s opposed to taking action to mitigate the effects. However, a debate focused on climate change is going to bring out some hard and scary truths that the Third-Way Dems really don’t want making the national news.
