Incidentally, my Dad (near Parramatta) reports that he hasn’t seen any stars for a month. And on the worst days, you can’t see the other side of the harbour.

For all who think natural gas is the answer to climate change, you have to get it out of the ground first.

A report out Tuesday from the International Energy Association reveals the extent to which coal has provided the power for Asian countries like Indonesia and Vietnam as their economic growth pulls millions out of poverty. The world burns 65 percent more coal today than it did in 2000, according to the IEA’s new report. Coal accounts for 40 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions.

If you find any Fridays for Future students striking, or other climate activism while you are over there, please post / let us know.

Due to varying degrees of nervousness about having one’s picture taken while doing such activities, please feel free to just tell us. I have activist friends who travel, and I’ve heard from them sometimes it’s not a great idea (especially for a gringo/gringa) to pull out a phone or camera and get snapshots. Maybe it’s different if one has press credentials hanging visibly on a lanyard around one’s neck.

Thanks in advance. Vietnam is absolutely on my A-List of travel destinations, but right now I and mine are in a significant financial hole and it might be a long time before I get there. Soak it up for us!
