Floods, Fires, and Heat Domes (the climate change thread) (Part 1)

I can’t vouch for the story, but that’s quite a vision.

Even if you have permission of the ppl the Vietnam govt may not be happy

This is similar to what I was hearing from traveling friends. And Vietnam is not the only country where this is a sensitive, fraught proposition.

Either way, “when in doubt, don’t” is usually a reasonable default unless you are fully prepared to deal with any aftermath, especially any documentation or action that may embarrass the very government who oversees visa and passport control.

This is 10 minutes from our place. We’re not in any danger - there are some major roads between us and the fire - but the smoke is pretty acrid, it’s 39c and there’s a strong wind.

THIS IS FINE. THIS CONTINUES TO BE FINE. NOTHING TO SEE HERE. CLIMATE CHANGE? WHAT CLIMATE CHANGE?

23.8 metres is 77.4 feet. Some dude surfed an 80 ft wave of the Azore islands

The Azores are part of Portugal, but this is Nazare, on the coast of the country, not the islands much further away.

I’ll be down there next month. Up in the NT, then down in Newcastle & Sydney. I was wondering if I should pack shorts. I think a fire suit may be more appropriate.

I know from experience. That is a sky I hoped I would never see again. This one is far worse than the one I experienced, at least my memory was of controlled fires.

Meanwhile in Scandinavia we had an unprecedented +11 c here in Säffle yesterday. Sunndalsøra peaked at +14.3 c. Which is both ridiculous and terrifying.
