Florida man who won $1 million lottery plans on "upgrading to an electric toothbrush"

I recommend Rainbow Sandals.

Though any sandals with decent leather foot-bed should avoid that annoying sound. American Eagle makes some decent ones that are a bit cheaper.

37% on amounts over $523,000.

I have the tax tables here. Assuming the guy makes $100,000 from salary (being generous) amount left of the million after federal tax is $647,206.

That’s always a surprise when I hear about it. Over here, competition prizes have always been tax free, and gambling winnings have been tax free since 2001 (Instead, they have an extra tax on the profits of running gambling). So big wins are always exactly what they say.

In Japan, too, lottery winnings are not taxed. (While horse race winnings are taxed, and the courts have determined that you cannot deduct all the money you put into losing bets.)
