Baseball bats and not-entirely-decorative swords are much less dangerous to the inhabitants and will do under most circumstances.

if the situation was truly as you describe and if it were possible to do so, yes, probably. if, for example, a mob of maga becrowned asshats were breaking in with the intent to kill us because of the biden sign in our front yard and i could not convince them to leave us in peace, again, yes, probably.

if it were a matter of whether i was losing a portion of our property to a startled burglar who thought the house was empty or everyone was asleep? no, almost certainly not.

context is everything.

The irony is that discharging a gun over property is almost certainly going to lead to a legal bill much greater than whatever property you thought you were protecting.
