Do large U.S. companies use “personal improvement plans” as elaborate devices to fire perfectly competent staff or encourage them to quit?

YES … my SO got “PIP’d” out of a semiconductor company … losing a large amount in shares that were about to vest.

Yeah it’s the EA Games model and it works. A lot of orgs that are large and have big tech presences (Capital One is a great example) do this same crap.

But that’s capitalism for you.
