Surely the rebranding means he’s now ‘Chief X-hole’.
It’s unfortunate and a hassle, but it’s long past time that reputable individuals and organisations and interest groups leave Twitter and start over somewhere else (preferably on a fediverse platform).
If an account was a professional office, would anyone with sense continue to keep it in a once-signature building where the new owner (in debt to gangsters) guts the building maintenance staff, stops paying the utility bills, welcomes in Nazi squatters, extorts large tenants, allows vandals to spray paint the walls with swastikas and dicks and then joins in?
Seems like turning it into junk was pretty much the point. So, from that perspective, Musk has achieved exactly what he was looking for.
He’s destroying it? What once was fertile ground for human stupidity will become barren and discarded.
If someone came along and said, "This platform is federated, free, and has all the same important features as Twitter. You can sign up at this single URL, and we have a free tool that will migrate all your Twitter details (contacts, former blue check status, tweets, etc.), then Twitter would empty out overnight.
As it stands, there are too many competing places to go other than Twitter, and none is easy enough to migrate to (like, “one-click” easy).
I think Cory Doctorow is right: the incumbents have too many ways to lock users in, and network effects in general are keeping people on Twitter even as enshittification has ensured the user experience has dropped to new lows.
So he has been playing N-dimensional chess all along! /s
Literally billions of people around the world got vaccinated.
Which means that now, whenever anyone dies for any reason, guess what’s going to get blamed?
Smoke inhalation during a house fire? Vaccine!
Car accident? Vaccine!
Autoerotic asphyxiation? Goddamn vaccine!
declining social network “X” […] thing formerly called a “tweet,”
I feel like nothing would annoy Musk more than if everyone ignored the new name and continued to call Twitter “Twitter” and tweets “tweets”.
Can we make this official BB policy?
Musk’s purchase has been a highly visible example of how huge wealth, even wealth obtained from (other) people doing smart things, is not an indication of intelligence or merit.
