Hear! Hear!
And what a(nother) damning indictment of shoddy police work and general lack of interest when it comes to sexual violence against women. Taylor’s experience is unfortunately far too common.
This quote from the article got me:
Khalil Wheeler-Weaver made many mistakes. And yet he proved difficult to catch.
Bullshit. They hardly even tried. Found torn off extensions on packing tape in an abandoned vehicle after a woman is reported missing, yet that wasn’t enough suspicion to hold the guy.
If not for those women, he’d probably still be out there.
That first link is a great heart-wrenching read.
That part.
Particularly when it comes to Black women, other WOC, and Transwomen.
Add sex-workers to any and all of those descriptors, and the syndrome of “we don’t care” is exponential.
Too true.
It really is. That woman who survived is impressive too. The cops didn’t even try.
I keep coming back to this bc not only did they not try, they actively made the situation worse by treating her like a liar and piece of trash. It’s good that she called so the incident was on file, but other than that she probably would’ve been better off without them. Assholes.
