My $0.02: I completely understand JPs reaction. Pent-up anger and frustration over so many asshats treating her as less-than-human for daring to be a female game dev in the gamergate era, resulting in her response to criticism in a forum she considered “off the clock” and casual.
But as we’ve seen on BB time and time again, social media (especially discussing work) is anything but, and ArenaNet really had no choice when one of their employees got into an argument with one of their partners in such a public way that it made the Reddit frontpage.
I don’t fault them for having to do what they did for the good of the business. I fault a system that expects quiet respect from those that are repeatedly discriminated against so that one “overreaction” is enough to essentially end a career.
In the end, everyone loses except the asshats who pushed JP to become so reactive and combative on social media in the first place.
