pre-internet is the big thing here. access to “boobage” for the average teen was not as easy just searching google then.
I remember those days. We had porn stashes in dead tree editions, stereotypically kept under mattresses, or kept in the garage or other masculine place. People actually bought Playboy, and not for the articles. Dads usually had porn stashes, which meant that the kids got into them too, in addition to cultivating their own. We didn’t have the endless firehose of porn that the Internet got us, but it wasn’t exactly a rare commodity either.
That’s true, and might I add, as a female horror fan, I find that beyond tiresome. I know, I know, it’s not just that “sex sells,” there’s also been a strong link between horror and sexuality since the novel Dracula, if not before that. But as a cishet woman, the only thing gratuitous T&A says to me is, “we didn’t film this for you. Go away.”
(Of course, horror films these days are sometimes smart and self-aware enough to play with the formula, or lampshade it, like Cabin In the Woods did. Or they may be using sexuality as subtext [vampires seduce their victims] or even text [It Follows, which I haven’t seen yet.] I’m okay with that. It’s when sex is used for no other reason than titillation that I start getting grumpy.)
I love Jackie Chan too!
Also, Donny Yen
And Steven Chow
My daughter’s all about Lee Min Ho:
I have seen so many of this mans movies and I could tell you the plot of none of them because I couldn’t stop staring at him… /swoon
Jet Li or GTFO!
Well, you’ll just have to watch them all again!
Unf. Lee Min Ho smolders
.
If you want to see a truly astonishing version of objectification, check out this David Edelstein review of “Wonder Woman” in “Vulture”: http://www.vulture.com/2017/06/movie-review-wonder-woman-is-a-star-turn-for-gal-gadot.html
Along with the author’s lame-ass defense after much backlash: http://www.vulture.com/2017/06/a-word-about-my-wonder-woman-review.html
It’s a tour du force of mansplaining.
Meh; hard pass. My ‘quota’ is already overfilled.
Wow. Talk about having only a superficial knowledge of something and then claiming that makes you an expert.
Like when he claims comic book fans will be disappointed there’s no bondage. Um, that got eliminated from the comic a long time ago. Nonagenarian S&M fans may be disappointed, true.
The Muse has a wonderful take down of both pieces but the second is my fave.
I’m completely grossed out by his description of 11-year-old Emma Watson. (Shudder)
Jet Li wins. Every time. You’re welcome!
I’ve got a solution! Watch his Shaw Brothers movies. The plots are almost non-existent, you can just stare at him without guilt!
First sentence ends:
…who is somehow the perfect blend of superbabe-in-the-woods innocence and mouthiness.
Ayiyi.
